Background of the Study
The aging population in Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State, has led to a growing need for specialized healthcare services tailored to the elderly. Geriatric nursing interventions, including health education, chronic disease management, and psychosocial support, play a critical role in enhancing the quality of life for elderly patients. These interventions aim to address age-related health issues such as arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, and reduced mobility, all of which significantly impact the well-being of the elderly.
Quality of life among elderly patients is influenced by their physical, emotional, and social health. Geriatric nursing emphasizes holistic care that not only manages medical conditions but also promotes independence, dignity, and social engagement. Studies (e.g., Adewuyi et al., 2023) demonstrate that effective geriatric nursing interventions lead to improved physical functioning, reduced hospitalization rates, and better psychological outcomes among the elderly.
However, the implementation of geriatric nursing interventions in Katsina State faces challenges such as inadequate staffing, limited training for nurses, and resource constraints. Understanding the impact of these interventions on elderly patients’ quality of life is essential for addressing these challenges and optimizing care.
Statement of the Problem
Elderly patients in Katsina State often experience a diminished quality of life due to chronic illnesses, social isolation, and inadequate access to specialized care. While geriatric nursing interventions have the potential to mitigate these challenges, their effectiveness is hindered by systemic issues such as insufficient geriatric training for nurses and resource limitations in healthcare facilities.
Despite the importance of geriatric care, there is a lack of research on how nursing interventions specifically impact the quality of life of elderly patients in Katsina State. Addressing this gap is crucial for developing targeted strategies to improve care delivery and outcomes for the elderly population.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on evaluating the impact of geriatric nursing interventions on the quality of life of elderly patients in healthcare facilities across Katsina State. It examines specific interventions, challenges, and potential improvements. Limitations include variability in patient responses to interventions and reliance on self-reported data from patients and nurses.
